Do you always have a headache and/or sore jaws in the morning? Have you noticed yourself clenching your teeth in the night? If so, you may be experiencing bruxism, the fancy name for unconsciously grinding your teeth when you sleep.
Bruxism can be very damaging to the teeth. It can wear them prematurely or even cause fractures, chips, and injuries to the mouth and tongue. Come in to Armstrong Dental for an evaluation and we will be able to give you a diagnosis and prescribe a treatment if necessary.
One immediate treatment for bruxism is wearing a night guard to cushion the teeth and keep them from coming in contact with one another. You can find universal “boil and bite” mouthguards at any pharmacy or sporting goods store, but if you would like a custom-made night guard we are able to take an impression of your mouth and teeth and make one uniquely formed for your bite.
Other issues that may be causing bruxism must be addressed as well. Positive lifestyle changes for stress reduction, diet and exercise can help eradicate the problem altogether. And be sure to discuss the medications you are taking with us so that we may determine if stimulants are the at the heart of the problem.
If you would like more information about bruxism, call Dr. Damon T. Armstrong and our helpful team at Armstrong Dental. Phone: 208-785-3310. Make an appointment or come by our office in Blackfoot, Idaho.
